The program „Händel & Friends“ presents the music of George Frideric Handel in the musical environment of London with works by Charles Dieupart and Francesco Geminiani. In addition to Handel's famous sonata classics for recorder and harpsichord, arrangements of works with which Handel made a name for himself in London can be heard, including a suite from his most successful opera "Rinaldo".

Handel celebrated a sensational premiere with the opera Rinaldo in 1711 and then published an arrangement for solo recorder with John Walsh in April. Our arrangement of Handel's Rinaldo features a version for recorder and basso continuo, alongside the great orchestral overture with four further arias from the opera, including the famous aria: "Lascia ch'io pianga".

Other compositions by Handel's contemporaries, such as Dieupart and Geminiani, provide an insight into the broad musical spectrum of different musical styles in London around 1720.
